Pakistan Saudi Arabia Defence Support Reaffirmed by Mosharraf Zaidi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Saudi Arabia defence support was strongly reiterated on Wednesday as Prime Minister’s spokesperson for foreign media Mosharraf Zaidi said Pakistan would stand by Saudi Arabia “before it is needed — no matter what, no matter when.”

Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg Television, Zaidi emphasized that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a longstanding strategic relationship built on security cooperation, economic ties, and mutual trust.

The remarks come at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East following US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

Pakistan Saudi Arabia Defence Support and Strategic Alliance

Zaidi said the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia goes far beyond formal agreements.

“The question is not whether Pakistan might come to Saudi Arabia’s aid. Both countries operate on a principle of being there for the other before they need the other,” he said.

He added that Pakistan Saudi Arabia defence support has historically been based on strong military cooperation and shared regional interests.

Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s military leadership, remains in close contact with Saudi officials as the regional situation develops.

Pakistan Saudi Arabia Defence Support Amid Middle East Tensions

Zaidi stressed that Pakistan’s primary objective was to prevent escalation in the Middle East.

Pakistan has maintained diplomatic engagement with multiple countries in the region, including Iran and Gulf states, in an effort to promote dialogue and stability.

The spokesperson noted that Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations have resisted calls from some international voices to become actively involved in the conflict.

“That restraint is something Pakistan appreciates and wants to see continue,” he said.

Pakistan Saudi Arabia Defence Support and Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement

Pakistan Saudi Arabia defence support was further strengthened last year when both countries signed a strategic mutual defence agreement in Riyadh.

Under the agreement, any attack on either nation would be treated as an act of aggression against both.

The two countries have historically maintained close military cooperation, joint training exercises, and economic partnerships.

Saudi Arabia has also been a key supporter of Pakistan’s energy needs and economic stability.

Fuel Supply Situation in Pakistan

Zaidi also addressed concerns about fuel availability in Pakistan amid the ongoing regional crisis.

He said the country’s fuel supply situation remains stable despite rising global oil prices.

According to him, the government increased fuel prices earlier to ensure that oil marketing companies could maintain sufficient reserves and secure alternative supply chains.

These measures were designed to prevent fuel shortages in Pakistan even if shipping routes in the region face disruptions.

Pakistan Navy Role and Strait of Hormuz

Zaidi dismissed speculation that Pakistan could escort international ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

He explained that the Pakistan Navy is currently focused on protecting Pakistan’s own maritime territory and shipping routes.

Any expansion of naval operations would only occur through international cooperation or multilateral arrangements.
