A tragic M9 Motorway accident in Karachi claimed at least 13 lives and injured nine others on Friday. The collision occurred at Ansari Bridge near DHA City and involved multiple vehicles.
Police confirmed that an oil tanker and a passenger bus were among the vehicles involved. The crash caused the tanker to overturn, spreading a large quantity of oil on the motorway.
Rescue Operation Faced Major Challenges
According to officials, rescue workers avoided using electrical cutting tools due to the risk of fire. Instead, they manually cut apart the damaged vehicles to retrieve victims.
Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, Malir SSP, stated that the oil tanker was heading toward Karachi while the passenger bus was travelling to Sanghar. Initial findings suggest the bus was moving in the wrong direction, leading to the collision.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan said four vehicles were involved:
- Oil tanker
- Passenger bus
- Passenger van
- Goods trailer
However, motorway police stated that the accident was triggered by a tyre burst in the oil tanker. Authorities are reviewing all evidence to determine the exact cause.
Sindh CM Orders Inquiry
Following the deadly crash, Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, expressed deep sorrow and ordered an immediate inquiry. He directed officials to identify those responsible and ensure strict enforcement of traffic laws.
