Islamabad: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Thursday confirmed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan Underwent 20-Minute of Medical Procedure at PIMS last week.
Speaking to Geo News, Tarar said Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, was taken to PIMS on the night of January 24 after being examined by eye specialists at the jail. According to the minister, doctors recommended a brief medical intervention, following which Imran was transferred to the hospital under medical advice.
Tarar stated that after further examination at PIMS and with Imran Khan’s written consent, a 20-minute medical procedure was performed. He added that the former premier’s vitals remained stable throughout the process and that he was returned to Adiala Jail the same night with medical instructions.
“He is absolutely healthy and stable,” Tarar said, stressing that all prisoners are entitled to medical care under jail rules whenever required. He reiterated that the decision to move Imran Khan to PIMS was made solely on the recommendation of medical experts.
Earlier this week, PTI had claimed, citing medical sources, that Imran Khan had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, warning that the condition could lead to permanent vision loss if not treated properly. PTI lawmakers also filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court seeking permission to meet the former prime minister.
A senior PIMS doctor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Imran Khan was brought to the hospital under strict security late Saturday night and that the procedure continued into the early hours of Sunday. The hospital’s operation theatres and anaesthesia area were reportedly cordoned off during his stay.
Responding to the minister’s statement, PTI strongly criticised what it described as Imran Khan’s “secret transfer” to PIMS, alleging that neither his family nor party leadership was informed. The party demanded that Imran’s complete medical reports be made public and that his personal physicians be granted unrestricted access.
Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, also raised concerns and called for transparency, urging authorities to share his medical reports with the family and lawyers. Separately, PTI leaders and members of the opposition alliance termed the secrecy surrounding the medical procedure a violation of constitutional and human rights, warning of political consequences if access to Imran Khan was not allowed.
