PM Shehbaz Appreciates World Bank Partnership During Islamabad Meeting

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday praised the World Bank partnership during a meeting with World Bank Group (WBG) President Ajay Banga in Islamabad, calling the institution’s support vital for Pakistan’s economic reforms and long-term development.

Ajay Banga was on his first official visit to Pakistan since assuming office as the president of the World Bank Group.


World Bank Partnership Supports Pakistan’s Reform Agenda

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz welcomed Banga and thanked the World Bank for its long-standing cooperation with Pakistan. He said the World Bank partnership had played a key role in supporting national development priorities, particularly under the 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF).

The prime minister also appreciated Banga’s leadership in strengthening the World Bank Group as a results-driven development partner.


Focus on Economic Reforms and Sustainable Growth

PM Shehbaz said the government was actively implementing a comprehensive and homegrown economic reform programme. He added that the reforms aimed to achieve sustainable economic stability and long-term growth.

He acknowledged the World Bank’s support in several critical areas. These included resilient infrastructure, agriculture, digital development, energy, human capital, fiscal reforms and private sector investment for job creation.


Fast-Tracking Projects Under Country Partnership Framework

Both leaders stressed the need to accelerate implementation and improve oversight of projects aligned with the Country Partnership Framework.

PM Shehbaz said faster execution would help remove delays in development projects and ensure visible results at scale. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to structural reforms that encourage job-rich growth and boost investor confidence.


Ajay Banga Reaffirms Commitment to Cooperation

World Bank Group President Ajay Banga thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and hospitality. He praised Pakistan’s reform efforts and expressed support for deeper cooperation under a One World Bank Group approach.

Banga said greater use of private investment, along with close coordination with development partners, was essential to meet the goals of Pakistan’s reform agenda.
