PTI’s senior leader and former foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has been returned to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail after completing his post-surgery stay at the hospital, his lawyer Rana Mudassar Umer confirmed on Wednesday.
Qureshi was admitted to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute last month following complications from gallbladder stones. Doctors successfully removed the stone, and his health has since stabilized. According to his lawyer, all necessary medical tests have been conducted, and their results are expected within the next two weeks.
Behind bars since August 2023, Qureshi continues to face multiple cases related to the May 9, 2023 unrest. In July 2024, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore formally charged him in a case registered by Shadman police, accusing him of involvement in the attack and arson at the police station.
During the same period, authorities transferred him from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Kot Lakhpat Jail, citing the recurring challenge of transporting him between the two cities for court hearings.
